The witching hour report: )

And for those of you who were flying yesterday into or out of Logan - it was on the news that the radar equipment was having problems and giving false readings to the air traffic controllers so they thought there were planes where there weren't and weren't where there were. Or something about flocks of geese showing up on radar making them think a plane was there. Basically they slowed the whole take off and landings down, increased the time between, and delayed all flights about two hours to fix the problem. So I hope everyone got home okay, even with the delays.
Can anyone believe it is October already? I know real life has been kicking my ass lately, but really, where the hell did the year *go*? And the weather has been more like early September than early October. I'm totally unprepared for Halloween yet! Argh! I still have to finish the one new piece I am making for TWH before I start 'me pirate costume, matey...'

I went to see the USS Constitution yesterday with Gwen and her dad. It was a good day for it, but I wish I was wearing shorts. It was warm warm warm warm! But the Navy tour guide (Tanya) was really good. She's from Boston originally, and seemed personable and happy, and knew lots about the construction of and life on board the 207 year old warship. I'd been there before, but not for twenty or so years. So it was very cool to be able to go down to the gun deck and below where the crew berthed. We got a short history of some military terms - some which I knew already, but were funny in historical perspective.

And my car went in this morning for it's scheduled service. The brakes ahve been squeaking quite badly/loudly, so I asked them to take a look. The guy when I checked the car in said it was probably nothing to worry about, since the first brake service isn't for another 3000 miles or so. But he said they would check it out. Lo, and behold. Something really is wrong! But it is covered under the vehicle warranty - I just have to take it back tomorrow morning for the replacement parts. He told me that likely the damage occured before I bought the car when it was being transported, but since it is such a small thing it wouldn't have shown up on normal checks of the vehicle. Knowing the car had less than 200 miles on it when I picked it up last February - The baby was barely born when someone did something that broke her! But after tomorrow it should be all good again.

So The Witching Hour is this weekend! Who will I see there? [livejournal.com profile] tea_and_toast I hope to get to the Percy panel you are on (as well as the FA event on Friday). [livejournal.com profile] heidi8 I'll be at your FA Friday shindig at the Salem pub, as well as the panel that night! [livejournal.com profile] dezzikitty and [livejournal.com profile] jiggery_pokery and [livejournal.com profile] dancingrain I will probably see you guys as well somewhere 'round. I hope to drive up after work on Thursday in time for the welcome thingie. Good times! Anyone going to the Ball on Sunday night?

ETA: Apparently, they have to go way-cross-country for my car part, as it won't be in by tomorrow. The soonest they can get it in is Friday, and as I will be already at TWH for the weekend, that means I can't take the car in again until next Tuesday. Oy! Oh, well.
