I had dinner with my brother and my father last night. My brother's family is on the Cape for the summer, and he spends weekends with them and weekdays here. He has decided to train for a triathlon sprint. It is the very shortest of the triathlons you can do. He said there is the "sprint" the "short course" the "regular" and the "ironman." The sprint is a quarter mile swim, ten mile bike ride and a three and a half mile run. He is hoping to finish in under an hour.

Crazy I tell you.

His younger daughter is now three and a half, and is routinely beating him at Candyland. His older daughter is five and a half, and apparently she is big into the Disney Fairies. She has a "Tink" tee-shirt that is "Favorite Clothes" and she has some Tinkerbell book that she asked her mother to read her because, and I quote, "Mummy, can you read me this book, because it drives Papa bananas."

And that's the reason Papa doesn't have to read her the Tinkerbell book anymore! He did confirm at dinner last night that the book drove him bananas. G starts kindergarten next month, and B will be in pre-school. I wonder what Kim is going to do with her mornings without the kids.

My mom was at an evening meeting (which is why it was just the three of us for dinner). Once a month my dad will call me up to see if I'm around and take me to dinner if I am. This was the first time my brother joined us, but it was nice. My dad told golfing stories, and my brother talked about the race. I think we need to make my dad a tee-shirt with the "Life Lessons Learned While Playing Golf" on it. The first life lesson? Alway check the firmness of the land ahead with your golf club before wandering out onto a "dry" stream bed after your ball. If you don't you might end up knee deep in mud, and lose your shoes (he recovered the shoes after mucking about in the mud). The second? Alway keep a bottle of water handy, especially in the summer heat. If you don't you might end up going to the clinic to get stitches when you fall and hurt yourself (he needed three, and a bottle of gatorade to replace what he lost to the heat of the day). What a riot!
