The odd things you think about when you are stuck in the car for hours on end with nothing but the radio or your CDs to keep you entertained.

I spent a bit of time on the drive home from Toronto puzzling out the conversion from kmph to mph. Going in there is a sign posted how 100kmph is equal to 60mph. Not hard, right? So when the sign is 100kmph you keep to around 60 and you're all good.

What about when it is posted 60kmph? Or 50kmph? Or even 45kmph? I started off approximating the conversion (you know - easy ones are 10kmph=6mph, 50kmph=30mph). But that only keeps you occupied so long.

So I started doing conversions in my head - and let me tell you - I haven't taken a math class since high school and that was mmrampfle years ago (College had the science *or* math requirement. I took science for non-majors). So the conversion thing, while it happened, did not happen quickly - until I'd thought out the trick to it.

But I did (eventually) figure out that 70kmph is 42mph. 45kmph is 27mph. And 65kmph is the unlikely 39mph. I amused myself for at least an hour puzzling this out as I drove towards the US border. So anybody who knows math, did I convert correctly? And is the sign correct for the straight conversion of 100kmph=60mph? Or are there fractions of distances here I am not aware of? (because, let's face it, I was stuck in the *car* and not only couldn't be arsed to find out, I wasn't able to find out... now that I am out of the car (and way more rested than I was at the time) I just can't be arsed).
