How many have your name?

On other news, I have been haunting the Ellis Island Web site and finding out lots of cool stuff about my family. I've found the records of my paternal great-grandfather, my paternal great-grandmother (my grandfather's parents, and also my grandfather - he was about seven months old when he, his older brother Vincenzo and his mom landed on Ellis Island in 1907)

I also found my maternal grandfather's parents (Nunzio, arrived 1900, and Maria Cristina was brought by Nunzio in 1910 - it was an arranged marriage, and Nunzio went back to the old country to get married, so he landed on Ellis Island twice...)

I have information on my grandmother's (on my father's side) parents, but there are a several hundred possible matches, as they had the Italian version of "Smith" as a family name. But my father's cousin Marie just sent me a bunch of information that will help. They also arrived between 1900 and 1910.

The only family I don't know much about is my grandmother on my mother's side. I only have names going back to my great grandmother. I don't know anything about the man she married but his name. I do know where my great-grandmother is buried, but she is in a family plot, and he is not buried there. She doesn't have a headstone there, but we know where she is - even if we don't exactly know how the other five people buried in the family plot are related, we do know they are. The oldest buried in the plot fought in the civil war according to his headstone - but I don't know whether he was an father or an uncle to Putty, my great-grandmother.

Cool stuff. www.ellisisland.org
