So catching up on my bud Eljay...
I am posting a link to slytherincess's veritaserum meme and also jlh's continuation and additions to slytherincess's meme, because I think it says a lot of what I am thinking about being in/around/out of fandom.
I linger on the edges of things simply because I can't stand some of the inter-fan politics. Don't get me wrong, I love being part of stuff - being on senior staff at Lumos was totally worth it - and the senior staff were some of the best folks at the event. But even there I was only responsible for decorations - on the edges, on the fringe, not out in front of everyone. But a lot of the inner circle stuff went zoom over my head, simply because I was a stand-in, not there from the beginning.
Yeah, Slytherincess's number one - BNF=WTF. This, I get. I don't really pay much attention to BNFs. Some of them I can't stand in person (see fairly mild rant on live podcast at Lumos in previous post). Some I am just simply not aware of, 'cause personally, life's too short. I am too busy to pay much attention.
I have been fangirled, and it made me slightly uncomfortable. Except in the case where I could fangirl right back *cough*ailei*cough*khirsah*cough*. But that was also three years ago, and I was half fried at the time, so I'm not sure they didn't come away with the thought I was an incoherent boob.
Ah, well. Perhaps it is time to retire the Lumos icon. Sad.

Wankery just seems to run rampant in this fandom, and the whole "BNF-er" thing gets a bit ridiculous. (Not that I have issues. ^_~) There are times I want to just step back and say to whomever is listening, "Um, guys? This is a Harry Potter fandom. Just. A. Fandom. It's really not even 'real life,' so what's up with the cliques and the whining and the stalking?"
Again, not that I have issues. I think I just took your post and ran too far with it. This is where I sit in the quiet corner. *Grin*
