So I made my mom a pancake breakfast. I even made it for my dad and brother, sis-in-law and my nieces. G (almost 4 and a half) and B (almost two and a half) ran around screetching for a good hour. G labeled B the "Grape Monster" and kept force-feeding her grapes as she sat under the table. I mentioned that perhaps Sesame Street was a too-regular occurance in their house.
The dogs (Jessie, a 13 year old lab and Chase a 7 (just a guess) year old golden retriever, neither small for their breed) got underfoot. Jessie got not ol=nly a bit of pineapple, but several grapes as well. Never knew a dog who loved fruit quite so much.
The pancakes turned out really well, and the fruit was enjoyed by all. All in all the whole morning turned out rather well. My mom didn't have to do anything and she got both her kids and both her grandkids for the morning. Which is nice since she and my dad spent part of last week travelling to my Great-Aunt C who is in the hospital.
My brother and sis-in-law talked a bit about the house they are building. It is really an addition, but it's so damn big its like building a whole other house attached to their existing house. And my brother is building it himself. He's had some help, but for the most part he is putting a ton of sweat-equity into it. They are planting some shrubs and bushes, and want to propegate some of the old-time plants around the house. She was knitting as we sat talking about various bushes, a cute little pink sweater. I guess a friend is having a girl, and she is making an adorable cardigan. I envy her ability with the knitting needles. Yarn crefts elude me. I've tried but only succeeded in getting my fingers hopelessly tangled.
They also mentioned a family friend of theirs will have a video on Noggin TV. Justin Roberts, the incredibly talented musician who happens to have a number of CDs for children (and believe me when I say they are among the most creative and, unlike with a lot of kids music, his stuff does *not* make you want to put your eyes out with a spork). His work is fun, silly, wonderful and available at amazon. So how cool is it he'll be on Noggin? If you happen to see it sometime in the next couple of weeks, let me know, 'kay? (He also has a CD out for adults that is simply wonderful, his music is haunting and lovely and his lyrics are intelligent. It is called "Bright Becomes Blue" and if you like folky/bluesy/jazzy you'll like this.)
Okay so I've blathered enough.
