Okay, I've been sifting through all the catalogues that have come in via the mail in the last couple of months. I've found one that *I* find kind of disturbing, but I don't know. It's a catalogue for "My Twinn" dolls.

Now, I have two nieces - one of which is just old enough for dress-up dolls (G will be 4 this January). I probably got the catalogue because I ordered magazines for G and B for their birthdays last year. I try to offset any toy or clothing gift with an educational or book gift. So they both got a dress(B)/shirt and jeans (G) plus the magazine subscription.

So yeah, I expect to get catalogues geared toward kids stuff once in a while, but to have a doll made that looks similar to a child? Isn't that just creepy? Or is it just me (keep in mind I have no kids of my own and just don't know)? Mothers of daughters want to comment? Explain to me why or why not.

ETA: Iguess it's not just girls, they have My Twinn Boy dolls, too... Also kinda creepy? Mothers of sons can weigh in, too!

Eh, I try not to think about it. My girls tend to pick dolls that don't look anything like themselves anyway. I don't recall either of them saying that their friends picked out a doll that looked like them as well. I think it's more for mothers than for the daughters, the ones with the credit cards. *shrug*

As the mother of both a daughter and a son . . . those are kinda creepy. o_0

I'm avoiding MyTwinn because they don't incorporate all multicultural physicalities. While I'd easily find a brown-haired, blue-eyed doll like Catie, they don't make a light-brown-haired, Asian-hazel eyed doll like her cousin Sydney, so until they do, no twinns for either girl.

We are going for American Girl stuff (http://66.102.7.104/search?q=cache:golj_gIHoSQJ:news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20051015/ap_on_re_us/american_girl_protest+%22american+girl%22+%22girls+inc%22&hl=en&ie=UTF-8) instead.
