So the dance studio is doing some whacked out version of Lilo and Stitch for their spring recital and I've been tapped to do their lights. Fun as that sounds, you gotta understand that this is taking place in the Middle School in the town the school is in, and their lighting system is over thirty years old.
Can you say decrepit? Thought so. We've also got a dimmer that doesn't work, in a system that only has eighteen dimmers total, the patch bank is sliders- and they are not so easy to move, some of the plastic handle parts are broken. The lighting board itself is a two scene, slider board, where five of the sliders have lost their little plastic heads, and all you got to move is the little metal bit that sticks out above the board maybe two millimeters. I've got curcuits that go on for no reason, and a few lights that light no matter whats going on.
I'm just really glad they are not expecting much. A little light so all the moms and dads can see their little darlings faces, and thats about it. There are four performances, with four different casts of two hundred kids per cast. Even with some of the kids being in more than one performance, it is still a wacky thing.
Ah well. I just wish it wasn't a telechat week. Tomorrow is gonna be one very long day.
