So the quote-unquote reality programming based on the wedding industry is really ridiculous. We all know this, yes?

But the only thing I can think is "holy hell, people are actually budgeting three to five THOUSAND DOLLARS for the frickin' DRESS?" (let alone paying a hell of a lot more when they find the "right dress" that is a few hundred or thousand OVER their top budget price). What the hell is wrong with us, people? There is no reason a wedding dress should be that much. I mean, if I was a bride right now, I'd make my own dress. Hell, I just made a Victorian costume from skin out - bloomers, corset, underskirt, overskirt, blouse, hat and cloak. If I can do something that complicated, I can make one simple dress. One day. You only get to wear your wedding dress one day, people. I have a hard time spending more than fifty dollars for shoes I wear all the time.

The best wedding I ever went to the bride wore a clearance dress - and she got it at a David's Bridal $99 sale - so it was even more discounted. I think she spent about forty dollars on the dress itself, another forty or so for shoes and accessories, and the wedding "supper" was a pot luck cookout. Laid back and lovely outside wedding. Shoestring budget, yes. Fun for all the guests, you bet. Married at the end of the evening - absolutely. That is how a wedding should go. And I suppose for some folks six thousand dollars is considered "appropriate" for a wedding dress. But wow. Can't imagine spending that much money on a dress. I am far too practical.

Late night TV - wow. So stupid. Obviously it is time for bed.

Oh yes...I have seen that show. My first thought was...'for that kind of money honey you better plan to be buried in that dress so you can say you wore it long enough to get your money's worth.'

But then i never understood people who spend $40,000 to remodel a room. One freaking room in their house. Gah.

I think its all tied into the whole "Princess for a Day" thing, and they think they need the fancy gown. Too made they don't realise they can have a beautiful dress for less money---price does not always equate beauty. Just look at that monstrosity that Princess Diana was conned into wearing! Gah.
