What I can say with no spoilers is this:
Lot gorier than I expected (way more blood and guts). Also a lot more OMG!NAKED than I was expecting, and we got a lot more NAKED!GUY than NAKED!GIRL which was a nice change from the mainstream.
Also - going to the movies on a Wednesday night FOR THE WIN!!! Only about twenty-twenty five people shared the experience.
Nice job, all the way around. I *loved* Rorschach - That the actor is not a big guy - fairly small and slight, and yet was so damned effective at intimidation and violence was awesome.
Billy Crudup as Dr. Manhatten was very good - and blue/bald/naked is a pretty good look for him. (wow, what a hell of a lot of body paint!)
I like the changes they made going from graphic novel to movie - it gives it a tighter feel. And while the movie is two hours and forty-seven minutes, I hope they release a director's cut that includes all the stuff they cut out to get it that short.
The opening credits with the "world as we know it in pictures" was very effective, but little too quick - I missed a lot of stuff (like Viet Nam being the 51st state) just trying to absorb it all. IMDb is great for that - although be warned that there are tons of spoilers among the info.
The "Luke I am your father" revelation was pretty obvious (if you've seen the movie you understand what I'm saying).
The soft-core porn scene was pretty nicely shot. Went a little farther than lots of mainstream movies, but hey, eyecandy is eyecandy.
The MUSIC selections were awesome - and I like that they used Ride of The Valkyries as it is mentioned in the graphic novel. In fact other bits of music were mentioned in the graphic novel and also used here.
The bits of pop culture from 1984/1985 were well placed. Since the movie basically takes place within a month October/November 1985 (with flashbacks and an epilogue) the "setting the scene" of movie/news/video clips were well thought out.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan, you badASS you. Well done!
Well cast all around. And it begs the question "do the ends justify the means?" I know what Ozymandias would say. What would you?
