Okay, I hardly ever do this. But I love love LOVE where season 4 is going. I love that this has been planned from way back in the pilot. That the answers we get are not "h, well, we kinda pounded this round peg to fit it in the square hole and if you squint it sort-of fits." I love that the major things do not change. And I love that Mary came from hunters.

I love that Mary made a deal to bring John back. I love that she wanted normal - the same way Sam wanted normal. I love that Sam and Dean are named for her parents. I love ickle!John and the purchase of the Impala. I love that Mary apologizing to Sam and Dean in "Home" now had layers and layers not present before. Sorry for giving the YED access, sorry for ignoring the warning, sorry for dying, sorry for haunting, lots of sorrys.

I love the fine line Sam is walking. That he knows what he is doing is more wrong than right, but does it anyway. I hope he realizes that Ruby is using him as her personal weapon sooner rather than later. And while I wibble that Dean had to have these revelations ALONE, I think it would have done more harm than good to have Sam realize that his mother effectively sold him to the YED for the life of her boyfriend. Secrets and lies.

I love the addition of Castiel - whatever he may be. We've seen demons, now we get a little of the flip side. Angel? Don't know. If you name them chaos and order, instead of evil and good, perhaps we are getting a little closer to what is going on.

Judeo-Christian centric? Sure. But then, most of the series has been. It may *touch* on other mythos, other traditions, other cultures, but it *lives* in the Judeo-Christian one.

This episode kind of rips your heart out in many ways. But the flashes of humor kept it from being too much. I love the writers and the show, and it just gets better.

And I know Gwen disagrees with me vehemently on lots and lots of this. I know she hates where she sees the season going, but I am not looking very far ahead, and am completely enjoying the journey. I know she will likely look at this episode as an AU or complete crack. But this is a pivotal episode in the series, and I think a lot of things are going to happen over the next two seasons because of what Dean learned here. I don't know what, but I think it is going to be good.

Everything you said? Word. ;-)

I'm trying to slap a polish on my 4.02 ep review, before I start cranking up the brain to ponder this. I DID like this episode for all the reasons you state, and it gave me some HUMONGOUS things to thunk about. Yas.

Not the least being that I've a whole new theory about Sam ... I don't think he's going to go "evil," per se, as many fans suppose. I don't know that it will necessarily be Sam on one side and Dean on t' other. What I DO wonder ... is if Sam is tapping into powers that could shake the foundations of the earth ... only he has no clue what he's really got. And the Heavenly Host dudes are freaking out, because to them, it's like watching a baby play with the trigger on nuclear bomb.

The scary thing? Could be that Sam has finally found a weapon that *works*, a fail-safe, totally effective means of dispatching demons, that does NOT involve him being flung into walls and ceilings, or buildings falling or any other chaos. He thinks - the demons go poof. Nifty, right? Only the Angels are going to try telling him - and Dean - NOT to use this power, and to go back to the old, laborious, *dangerous* way of fighting evil.

Sort of like taking away your shovel and handing you a teaspoon to finish removing a pile of shit the size of Mt. McKinley. *That* could be the conflict between the brothers: Sam doesn't want to give up the ability to save other people, himself, AND Dean, and Dean is desperate to stop Sam from using powers that the Angelic Gang fear, before the Angels come and smite Sam dead, dead, dead.

And wouldn't it be a humdinger, if the angels themselves kept pushing at Sam, until he felt he had no choice but to lash back? *meep!*

Yeah. It's gonna be an interesting season, and I cannot WAIT to see where Kripke leads us! :-)

Whew. Wow. Look, I got thinky! I may go lay down, now ... *g*
