I finally finished "Wicked" - Very beautifully crafted novel. I dragged out reading the end for a long time, more because I really didn't want to leave Oz than anything else. Maguire did such a fantastic job of taking the little pieces and parts of the Baum books and created an actually believable political climate with it. I loved Elphaba. She was snarly and intelligent and gifted - but flawed in a very human way. And even if Dorothy is a fringe character, you kinda do see her as an insipid, vapid girl, whose minions (Lion, Woodman, and Scarecrow) destroy all of Elphaba's creature-friends.

I've also been rereading bits of the Terri Windling edited "Bordertown" novels. I have all of them, I think. Really good fantasy short stories. Hard to find, nowadays, but really good, anyway.

So I am continuing to clean out various nooks and crannies in my house. And getting rid of boxes and boxes that hadn't been unpacked since I moved in. That feels pretty good, actually.

In other news, I got the date for my high school reunion this fall. Oy! I am not this old. I'm really not. It's gonna be all these people with their SOs and children! Gods, I bet they all have children (actually, I know at least four that have two kids apeice, and one that has three!). And I have neither SO nor children. I am of two minds about this whole thing. Most of these people I haven't seen since I graduated lo, these many years ago.

Should I go, or not?
