I just saw "Master Class" the play about Maria Callas - the opera singer, for those that don't know. It was absolutely phenomenal. I knew two of the cast members. The woman who played Maria and the man who played the tenor, Tony. Absolutely fabulous. For those who don't know: Maria Callas did a series of master classes at Julliard in the early seventies. People could pay for a ticket to watch her conduct these master classes with Julliard students. Apparently they were wildly popular.

So Terrence McNally wrote a play that is basically a one-woman show based around these classes that delve into Maria's life, with cameo appearances with the singers. And RF did a fantastic job as Maria. LP was wonderful as Tony. The two ladies who sang were lovely as well.

I wish I knew a little bit more about opera. Some of what she said was so much about life, it didn't matter, but a few of the comments would have had more depth if I knew a little bit more about the characters in opera. You could kind of figure out what she meant through what was said, but I still think it may have had more depth if I knew a bit more.

After the play we saw my grandfather in the rehab place. He's actually walking around now, which is good. It was nice to actually have something to TALK to him about - and I showed him how to work the TV remote. Give him a break. His TV is so old at home it doesn't have a remote, and he's 93 - not like he really wants to learn new things! But he's doing as well as can be expected. I understand his great-grand kids saw him this past week. My brother's family visited him and he saw the baby - who has *blue* eyes, and is MUCH fairer than her dark-eyed sister. Now, she is still young enough that her eyes may still go darker, but I don't think they will.
