San Diego was lovely, especially the bits I saw outside the hotel. And there weren't too many of those. After the debacle of my first night, the rest of my hotel stay was remarkable free of worry. My new room was nice, the bed was comfortable even if I didn't have the time to sleep as much as I wanted/needed to. Our missing shipment showed up last Monday only five days late. Unfortunately, the 39 box shipment that was palleted never did arrive. Oh, well. Everything else seemed to go okay. You know it is sad when you exit the side door near the meeting rooms just to go in the front door of the hotel so you can say you made it outside that day.
A work collegue and I made sure to walk a couple of times and we swam in the hotel pool twice - granted it was after dark both times, and we did more hot tub sitting than swimming, but still, we did a bit of exercise. I even insisted on walking to the bank on my Friday sojourn because I felt the hotel food was turning me into a lump of not very attractive lumpiness.
On Friday, the GM of the Hotel and our sales rep took us (by us, I mean everyone onsite with our company) out to dinner. It was *amazing* - I had the freshly harpooned swordfish, harpooned off the restaurant's own fishing boat. It was melt in your mouth yummy. And it did not have a fishy taste. Heck, the potatos and vegetables had a fishier taste than my swordfish steak.
So while I did not get to either the Zoo, the Animal Park or Seaworld, I got out of the hotel exactly three times in nine days - better record than the San Francisco meeting, when I checked into the hotel and had exactly one trip off property to go three blocks to the store to pick up goodies!
But I did find San Diego to have relentlessly perfect weather (December had no discernable difference than August - perhaps a bit cooler at night). And absolutely no bugs what-so-ever. Having been there twice, I think the Sheraton San Diego Hotel and Marina would make a nice west-coast place for a bid team for HPEF. There, my two knuts if any HPEF folk are out there listening. This is not me throwing my hat into the ring, just an opinion from someone who travels a whole bunch and has been to a number of hotels in the last five years. And I have no doubts the hotel could house us even if we grew to be over two thousand. The last time we were there we had a meeting of 2300-2800 on property at any given time. This time we had the whole place almost all week and we were only 1500+. It worked well either way - a bit more crowded before, but not noticeably.
Oh well. On other things I have a haircut today and I have mounds of laundry to do tonight...
