So
gwendolyngrace and I are *most probably* going to the Pandemonium Sci-Fi Fantasy Bookshop on Friday July 15th for the midnight release party for HP and the Half-Blood Prince. And we are working on planning the activities for the party. Party starts at 10pm (doors close at 10:30pm) and we get to entertain the masses until midnight. It sounds like a fun time, and I am mining the potterparties.com and hp-lexicon.org and such for ideas and clues to puzzle questions.
They are discouraging kids, encouraging adults, and Starbucks is going to stay open to keep the masses awake. I am content to get my copy from amazon, since I've had it on order there for weeks (and I am not holding out high hopes for a post-Sirius series).
I finished reading OotP in the Dulles airport on my way home from a week spent in the home office, and about a week before Nimbus. I remember the night Gwen called me and told me I had to drop everything and read the danged book. I replied, you can either have Nimbus - 2003 decorated *with* quidditch banners, or me having read the book. She subsided a bit, but it still took a while for me to read it. I closed it, put it in my bag, and boarded the plane. When I unpacked it went on the shelf where it has stayed ever since. So I read it exactly once. I hated the ending, and I was in a public place so I couldn't even be totally t00by about it and cry.
Nimbus - 2003 was fabulous. We had an incredibly good time, although most of it is a blur of people with highlights that come out in sharp, if disjointed, focus. I couldn't give you a clear timeline for the event, but I remember meeting people. I met Khirsah and Ailei in an elevator when I was so tired I couldn't really form coherent sentences. I *think* they were with Smeg, but I could be wrong. I remember meeting Aja, and
folk because who can forget a tall man spreading glitter in his wake? I remember
bekkio because she helped with sewing projects. I remember OrcaMorph, and Flourish, and Ebony. I remember the planning team, since I hung with them the most. I remember
heidi8's Jon, so tiny a babe-in-arms. I understand he is tearing up the floors as an active two year old.
I gave the Miami Macaw's Quidditch banner to Heidi as a gift. I gave the San Juan Seagulls one away, too. Come to think of it I auctioned two for charity, and gave away the other four. I *was* going to keep one for myself, but oh, well.
I remember decorating the girl's bathroom with grey gauzy material and a "moaning myrtle" for the potion challenge part of the Quest. I remember having Gwen hand me a cash box and telling me to go put it in the safe. I was gone at most ten minutes, and I come back with the empty box to find everyone aflurry because they couldn't find the cash box and Gwen didn't remember telling me to go put the money in the safe. I remember being door-goblin for the keynote luncheons. I remember the fire alarm the first (second?) night in the hotel that emptied our wing and our floor of the hotel on to the grass in the back.
I remember crossing over to the Dolphin for the FictionAlley party in a sudden monsoon-like downpour. And trying to keep Gwen dry with my rain poncho (I was in my quidditch robes, but she was spledid in something fancy) - but it was a losing proposition.
So yeah, while I remember bits and pieces, the whole is a big blur. Although, not as big a blur as I thought now that I've put some of these memories down. And I am thinking back on the fandom, Nimbus - 2003, and the POA NY IMAX screening as the release party comes closer.
Yes, I will be attending The Witching Hour and Lumos. So looking forward to the new book, but not with the squeefulness that marked the excitement of the last two.
What will you all be doing at midnight, June 15th? Are you going to a party? Are you planning one? Let me know!
