Folks who know me know that three times a year my job sends me to far flung places. Sometimes it is rather pedestrian - in March I was in Anaheim, California. Sometimes it is more fancy. I just got back from Maastricht, the Netherlands.

In November I'll be spending two weeks in China. Beijing, to be specific.

I know very very little about China or Beijing. Anyone ever been there? Thoughts on traveling there, being there, experiencing there? I am trying hard to find the "ADVENTURE" excitement for this trip. And one of my work friends has nearly convinced me to take a couple of days after the meeting ends to go see the Great Wall - because, really, when else would I?

Thoughts?

Go. See it. Witness first-hand one of man's greatest wonders. An edifice so magnificent it can actually be seen from space, and whose history is fraught with legends and myth. Go see a work that took over 300 years to build (the present structures) but whose total construction and use spans almost 2,000 years. Go stand among stones laid down when the Americas were wilderness and Chaucer and Dante were writing their great works.

Here's a link to numerous articles about the Great Wall. I think it would be something magical, despite and perhaps because it is part of a culture so different from ours. :-)

There. How's that for my attempt to talk you into it? *g*

You should see about going to the Forbidden City.
I've only ever seen pictures, but I'm thinking it would be well worth the time.

Oh...and it's a myth---you can't see the great wall from space. :-)
