Something likely only really adorable to me, but I have to record this somewhere...

My nephew is currently about sixteen-ish months old. He is at the stage when he can walk and run, but is also likely to go tumbling over at a dead standstill just from excitement. He likes to climb on anything that has convenient or not-so-convenient hand and foot holds. He likes being up high, and adores being picked up by the back of his overalls and dangled. He likes "swooping."

He drools a LOT, as he is still teething a bit, but he is a fairly cheerful little boy, not prone to fits of temper. He is not as clingy as B was. He is not as independent as G was.

And he has not yet learned to differentiate between his parents. The one he wants is "Mum." It does not matter to him if he wants his mom or his papa. He calls out "Mum" and whichever parent whose attention he is trying to capture pays him some attention.

Neither of my nieces had this problem. K was Mommy and M was Papa. Right away. But to this kid, the primary care givers are both Mum, and I nearly laughed my ass off when he wanted Mum and I tried to tell him Mommy was behind him. He looked at me like I was nuts and went straight to my brother still calling "Mum mum mum mum."

My brother has his hands full with this one. And he's already had to take him for stitches. Raising himself all over again. There was a point when my brother was eleven, twelve, thirteen my mother was taking him to the hospital for stitches or a cast on average once a month. She was afraid they would look at the pattern and think he was being abused - but no, it was just youthful hijinx and natural clumsiness (which we've all inherited, as neither of my parents are terribly graceful human beings), and a propensity for stupid stunts.

He may act like my brother, and smile like him a little, but L has his mommy's big beautiful dark dark dark brown eyes.
