I am still thinking
Almost a full week ago
gwendolyngrace and I went to see Sin City. Oh. My. GODS! What a phenomenal movie!!! Robert Rodriguez is amazing for bringing on not only Frank Miller (you *can not* do a Frank Miller project right without Frank Miller!) but Quentin Terrantino as a guest director. Robert, for knowing how to use people's strengths, you are The Man.
I've been thinking of this movie all week. Violent, rather unapologetically so, the interconnected-ness of it is brilliant. I loved the use of the graphic/non graphic elements. The use of black and white vs color was also amazing. The cars were cool, and we *love* the ladies of Old Town. The tar-pit scene where Dwight is in the pit? Very cool. The scene with Dwight and the head of Jackie Boy in the car with the faint light color-bleeds was incredible.
And Devon Aoki as Miho was absolutely fabulous. I loved the sequence of Hartigan in the prison cell. And yes, the graphic violence was, well, pretty violent, but this is by far the best example of a graphic novel done on the big screen. It remained absolutely true to the vision of the graphic novel. So cool!
And Elijah Wood? Creepy. Very creepy as Kevin. That is one way to get people to see you as more than a hobbit. Do a part like Kevin. He doesn't say a word, but man, he does creepy very well.
So yeah. Still thinking about it.
